In 2021, Google Maps and Google Shopping launched their first-ever paid TikTok campaigns with our team at Byte.

The Google Maps team reached out to us with an insight that Gen Z users favored Apple Maps because to them, “maps are just maps.” Our campaign highlighted how the app’s features aren’t just helpful—they can create a richer and more rewarding experience. We worked with a mix of TikTok Creators and actors to show how Google Maps’ features can be helpful, in a way that's entertaining and true-to-platform.

When Google Shopping asked our team for social strategy, we gave them an insightful breakdown of how to market on TikTok. We knew TikTok users were inspired to shop, with 67% of users* in the EU saying so. Additionally, 63% of users* reported an interest in beauty and fashion, so we made those topics our focus. From there, we concepted original scripts based on revelant video trends that would resonate with our audience.

In production, we rebuilt the Google Shopping UI (with imaginary brands, of course) to provide the Creators green screen background graphics to use. We briefed them each on the concepts, and they delivered us their final videos.
